Alex’s Great State Race

For 12 years, Alex’s Great State Race takes place the day before the Michigan State University vs. University of Michigan football game. ROTC cadets from both schools run the game football 64 miles from one campus to the other through the scenic back roads of Michigan. The race honors Alex Powell, a former MSU student who loved sports and all things Spartan. Alex received support from MSU’s Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities when diagnosed with cancer and died May 8, 2011. The event brings awareness to making quality education accessible to all.  

Whether you’re a Spartan, a Wolverine, or simply a supporter of equitable access, Alex’s Great State Race gives you a chance to celebrate community while making a real impact. Join the virtual race, where you can run, walk, or roll your miles anytime, anywhere during the entire month of October. When registering, you can choose to direct your support to either university, or split your support between both.
