Engagement Liaison Model

In alignment with the University Health and Wellbeing Plan (PDF) and the MSU 2030 strategic plan, the Engagement Liaison Model aims to scale health and wellbeing across Michigan State University for all students, faculty, and staff.

UHW’s Engagement Liaison Model seeks to identify a Health and Wellbeing Representative in each MSU college and major administrative unit. Through this model, colleges and units can:

  • Have an empowered advocate for health and wellbeing.
  • Access tailored, timely, and effective health support.
  • Use shared frameworks and best practices for health promotion.
  • Take part in a university-wide network that supports Spartan health outcomes.

The following colleges and units have an active Health and Wellbeing Representative. To learn who represents your college or unit, contact UHWEngagement@msu.edu

If your college or unit is not listed, you are welcome to join the Engagement Liaison Model or engage in discussions to identify a representative.

About Health and Wellbeing Representatives

Health and Wellbeing Representatives support the flow of information and resources between University Health and Wellbeing and MSU’s colleges and units.

Seeking to enhance health and wellbeing within their college or unit, these Representatives identify the unique needs of their student, faculty and staff populations, share UHW resources, and work creatively to create strategies to enhance Spartan health and wellbeing.

In addition to supporting their college or unit, the information provided by these Representatives offers essential insights on health and wellbeing at MSU.

The Health and Wellbeing Representative serves as the key link between colleges or units and UHW. These representatives are faculty and staff who understand the unique needs and concerns of the students, staff, and/or faculty in their area. This perspective provides valuable insights to the state of Spartan health and wellbeing.

Representatives:

  • Serve as the point of contact for their college or unit on health and wellbeing programs, and services.
  • Support the development of strategies that enhance their college or unit’s health and wellbeing.
  • Connect their unit with campus or external partners as needed.
  • Encourage students, faculty, and staff to engage in UHW health and wellbeing programs.
  • Keep in contact with their designated Engagement Liaison.

The time commitment of Health and Wellbeing Representatives varies by college or unit and the representatives existing responsibilities.

At a minimum, representatives attend four meetings per academic year:

  • One check-in per semester with your designated Engagement Liaison.
  • One group meeting per semester with other Health & Wellbeing stakeholders.

Health and Wellbeing Representatives can also meet with UHW’s Engagement Team on an as needed basis.

To share your interest in having or becoming a representative in your college or unit, contact the UHW Engagement Team at UHWEngagement@msu.edu.

After receiving your request:

  • The Engagement Team will offer to schedule a time for your staff to receive a UHW Overview presentation prior to your first meeting.
  • After this presentation, your college or unit will be asked to identify a Health & Wellbeing Representative for your college or unit.
  • Your college or unit will be paired with an Engagement Liaison and schedule an onboarding meeting.
  • You will begin regular consultations with your designated Engagement Liaison and receive access to tools and support that can help to support your college or unit.
