About Us

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides comprehensive mental health support to students. In addition to counseling, we offer referral coordination, consultation, and guidance to help students access the resources that best support their healing, growth, and sense of belonging—whether through CAPS, campus partners, or community providers.

To make or cancel an appointment, call 517- 355-8270 and listen to the prompt options. You can also schedule an initial appointment online or find an Off-Campus provider.

Schedule an Appointment with CAPS
  • Getting Started at CAPS
  • Accessing Mental Health Services: If you are not already established at CAPS, you can get started by scheduling an initial consultation. To schedule an initial consultation to discuss your concerns, needs, and next steps, complete a brief questionnaire.

If there is not an available appointment that fits your needs — or if you have trouble scheduling an appointment online — please call 517-355-8270 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

What to expect during your consultation:

    • Your consultation with CAPS will last up to 30 minutes on Zoom, unless you prefer to talk by phone.
    • At the end of your session, the counselor will talk about next steps, which may include information about ongoing services at CAPS, resources that could be helpful to you, or a referral to a campus partner or community provider based on your unique needs and the clinical recommendations of CAPS staff.

    Note:

Due to professional licensure requirements, we are unable to provide ongoing services to students residing outside the state of Michigan but can help to connect you with a provider in your home state.

The appointment scheduling link is not monitored after 5 p.m. All forms received after 5 p.m. will be reviewed during the next business day.

  • For current clients
  • If you or someone else are in danger, call or text 911 or go to the nearest emergency room, if it is safe to do so.

Crisis counselors are available 24/7 by calling 517-355-8270 and pressing “1” at the prompt.

    CAPS is open for in-person and virtual services Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To make or cancel an appointment, call 517- 355-8270 and listen to the prompt options.

Established psychiatry patients can contact their provider through the MyMSUHealth patient portal. If you are concerned about the potential cost, please mention this to your provider.

To submit a refill request, call 517-355-8270 or, for established psychiatry patients, through the MyMSUHealth portal.
