Pronouns: She/Her

Dr. Julia Popenoe began working at Olin Health Center in 2007 and became Assistant Medical Director of Campus Health SErvices in 2024. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College and an MD from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Popenoe completed her pediatric internship and residency at Boston Children’s Hospital.  As Assistant Medical Director, she is focused on meeting the needs of diverse patients in a welcoming, personal, and thorough manner; supporting the needs of the clinical staff so that every member can provide excellent care; and keeping up to date with best practices in medical care and administration.

Before coming to MSU, Dr. Popenoe worked at Cornell University Student Health Services in Ithaca, NY for ten years, where she was the co-founder of The Cornell Healthy Eating Program (CHEP). Prior to that she was the medical co-director of the Maternal and Child Health Clinic at Waltham Hospital in Waltham MA.

Dr. Popenoe is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a member of the American College Health Association, and the Academy for Eating Disorders. Her professional interests include adolescent and young adult medicine, eating disorders, and comprehensive, up-to-date, and evidence-based primary care medicine.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, knitting, playing pickleball, and spending time with family and friends. Despite growing up in Princeton, New Jersey, she is a loyal Spartan who now bleeds green!
