New Students

Welcome to MSU! We understand that transitioning to campus life and managing your health care can feel overwhelming, but we're here to support you every step of the way. Start by taking these important first steps and explore the various insurance options available to MSU students.

Understand your insurance options. It is strongly recommended all MSU students have good insurance. Learn more about insurance options.

Complete the Consent Form for Treatment of Students Under Age 18. Turning 18 after you move to campus? Your parent/guardian will need to complete form in order for you to receive most medical services.

Michigan State University requires all entering undergraduate students to complete an Immunization Self-Report. Failure to complete this form may affect your ability to attend MSU. In order to submit the Immunization Self-Report, you will need to have activated your MSU NetID and password. Copies of personal medical or immunization records are not acceptable substitutes for the required Immunization Self-Report. Learn more about Immunization Self-Reporting and access the form.

Plan for Prescription Medications and Refills. Bring enough of your current medication to get you through the first month of school as well as a copy of your prescription. Plan enough time for refills! The MSU Health Care Pharmacy can deliver to residence halls and assist in the transfer of prescriptions. Learn more at pharmacy.msu.edu. Students already diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can transition their ongoing ADD/ADHD medication management to a Campus Health Services primary care physician. Learn more about transitioning care to Campus Health Services.

MSU Student Health Insurance Waiver. MSU International, medical, and vet med students are automatically enrolled in the MSU Student Health Insurance Plan. All medical students and a limited number of eligible international students who can demonstrate another form of US-based health insurance coverage that meets the applicable waiver criteria may apply for a waiver.
