Work-Related Illness and Injury

Call 911 if the illness/injury is a critical emergency.

Employees who suffer a work-related illness/injury should immediately report the injury to their supervisor. Refer to the MSU Human Resources Workers’ Compensation for direction and necessary forms.

If you have been exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials:

• Flush and wash exposed area for 15 minutes
• Notify supervisor of exposure
• Refer to Environment Health and Safety for more information (MSU employees, including student employees)
• Obtain medical care with the first 2-4 hours of exposure (all other MSU students exposed)
• The primary facility for work-related illness/injury is Lansing Urgent Care. Go directly to University of Michigan Health-Sparrow for severe burns, fractures, shock, seizure, shortness of breath, severe bleeding, chest pain, head injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and bloodborne pathogen exposures, chemical exposure, or smoke inhalation.
