Spartan Peer Counselors (SPC) receive training, attend weekly supervision, and help with mental health event promotion on campus every month.
There are 4 SPCs in the 2026-2027 academic year:
Dionne Williams (she/her): I am a Psychology Major, and I am especially interested in talking with my fellow Spartans about coping skills that make people feel less overwhelmed with campus life. In my free time I enjoy watching movies, building lego sets and journaling.
I became an SPC because I wanted to be someone that other students could talk to without feeling judged or like they had to have everything figured out. I know college can feel overwhelming at times, and I want to help create a space where my fellow Spartans can feel heard, supported, and comfortable being themselves.
Mikayla Jackson (she/her/they/them): I’m an Arts and Humanities Major and I am especially interested in talking to Spartans about how we can re-imagine academic stress to have a more positive outlook on life and talking through interpersonal issues. I enjoy listening to music, hanging out with my friends, and crochet projects. I became an SPC because I value helping people through their own struggles, whether it’s through tangible advice or just letting others feel heard.
Laci Reichling (she/her): I’m a psychology major and I am specifically proficient in knowing what resources are available for survivors and other resources related to mental, physical and emotional health. I enjoy talking to students about interpersonal difficulties, adjustments to college, academic concerns, depression & anxiety, as well as anything that overall takes a little bit of weight off their shoulders. I enjoy hiking, playing volleyball or trying to bake a new cookie recipe. As a human, I feel my purpose is to help as many people as possible, it is this purpose Spartan Peer Counseling is a free, in-person, peer support option for MSU students. Spartan Peer Counselors (SPCs) provide a space for fellow Spartans to feel seen and understood. Students can use this space to share experiences, learn about resources, and explore suggestions for promoting their mental health.
Sruthi Rajavelu-Mohan (she/her): I’m a Neuroscience and Microbiology major with a strong interest in mental health, advocacy, and research. As someone from the brown community with hopes of becoming a pediatric psychiatrist, I’m interested in understanding the cultural, social, and systemic barriers that can come with navigating life in America as an international student or immigrant, and how those experiences can shape the way people view mental health and seek support.
I became an SPC because I wanted to become more involved in mental health on campus while learning how to address the issues I’ve seen and learned about within my own community growing up. I hope to use those experiences, along with what I learn through CAPS, to have conversations about stigma, access to care, and how we can make mental health support feel more approachable and inclusive.
In my free time, I enjoy pottery, painting, hiking, watching thriller shows, and spending time outdoors with my dog, Rocky!
