Flu shot letter - students

MSU students,

As we approach the beginning of influenza season, it’s important that you take action to protect yourself by getting your annual flu shot.

This year, flu shots are available at Olin Health Center, Brody Olin Outpost and the MSU Health Care Pharmacy on Hagadorn Road. Appointments are required at all three locations. Students can call 517-353-4660 to schedule at Olin or Brody Olin Outpost. Students can schedule their flu shot for the MSU Health Care Pharmacy online at pharmacy.msu.edu . For most students with insurance, there is no cost for the vaccine. For students without insurance, financial resources are available through the Support Our Spartans , or SOS, fund.

As you plan a time to receive your annual flu shot, I hope you also are staying updated on your COVID-19 vaccine. Current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone ages 6 months and older receive an updated 2024-25 COVID-19 vaccine regardless of whether you have ever previously been vaccinated with a different COVID-19 vaccine. Receiving an updated 2024-25 COVID-19 vaccine can restore and enhance protection against the virus variants currently responsible for most infections and hospitalizations in the United States.

The updated 2024-25 COVID-19 vaccines are available at the MSU Health Care Pharmacy. An appointment is required and can be scheduled online . You also can check with various community health care providers on vaccine availability off campus.

And, if you need a COVID-19 test, the federal government shared that they are bringing back free at-home COVID-19 rapid test kits. Every U.S. household can receive four free rapid tests delivered directly to their home. More information is available at covid.gov/tests .

For more information on the cold and flu, visit Campus Health Services . For COVID-19 guidance, visit CDC.gov or read MSU’s COVID-19 guidance for students .

Stay healthy and take steps to protect yourself and others.

Sincerely,

Michael Brown, M.D.
