Storing Your Serum or Injectable Medication
When you obtain your injections from the Allergy and Immunization clinic, we must store your serum or injectable medication for you. This is why we require that all medication be clearly labeled with your name, date of birth, expiration date, and the vial contents. This includes antigens, glycerin, etc. You may check out your serum or injectable medication when you need to return to your allergist.
Please remember that when you check your serum back to us, do so during our drop off hours.
Our goal is to help you stay as healthy as you can so you can focus on your classes and not your allergies!
Note: We do not give Venom serum (bee allergy injections) or food allergy injections. Subcutaneous injectable medications generally do not require nurse administration as they are self-injected but are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Campus Health Services does not offer skin allergy testing. When needing injections of any type, you must be seen at the prescribing allergist’s office and get your initial injections there. We will then be able to provide continuing care for you while you are away from home.
Your allergist may mail us the serum or you may schedule an appointment to drop off your serum at least a week prior to a needed injection appointment. After you are established with our clinic, you can drop off continuing serums without an appointment.
See above for serum drop off times.
Along with your serum, we will need the following documentation:
The injection and dosing schedule (shot record) that comes with the serum must detail the following:
Please be advised that all injection and dosing schedules must be signed by your allergist or physician. We cannot accept orders signed by any other staff member. Each antigen serum vial and paperwork must be clearly labeled with:
If we do not have all of the required documentation, you will need to return the vials to your allergist or physician for correction.
When we have received the serum and complete documentation, we will contact you to set up your initial appointment. This can sometimes take a week or longer.
We ask that you arrive at least ten minutes prior to your appointment. If you arrive after the appointment has started, you may be asked to reschedule.
For your safety, you will be expected to remain in the clinic for 30 minutes after you receive your injection. If you cannot remain in our clinic for that amount of time, you will not receive your injection.
Welcome back! If you are an established allergy or injectable medication patient, you can check out your serum whenever you are going home to your allergist and check it back into us when you return. Please remember to drop off your allergy or medication serum at least 2 days prior to your appointment so we have time to process any necessary paperwork.
We offer a variety of routine immunizations. We bill your insurance for the vaccine and for the administration of the vaccine. Unfortunately, we are unable to tell you about coverage specific to your insurance. Please contact your insurance company directly for any questions you have regarding coverage or copays. Patients may be billed for any amounts that are not covered by your insurance.
For information about approximate prices of immunizations, please see "Are You Immune Aware?".
We offer the following routine immunizations by appointment. To make an appointment, call 517-353-4660:
Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment to complete paperwork. Also, be aware that we require a copy of your vaccination record (history of all your injections) in order to give immunizations. You must bring this with you. You should be able to obtain your records from your high school, home doctor, or home health department.
**You do not need your vaccination records to obtain the Influenza (flu) vaccine.
If you need vaccines for Polio, Shingles, Chicken Pox, Yellow Fever, or any travel-related immunizations, please visit the Travel Clinic.
Tuberculin (TB) skin tests are available by appointment. You must make two appointments: one for the injection and one for the reading (between 49–71 hours after). If not read in this window, you will need to repeat the test and be charged for a re-test.
We do not offer TB culturing at this time.
If you are obtaining a TB skin test for a job, please understand that Allergy and Immunization does not give physicals. If you need a physical or a medical clearance signed by a doctor and it requires a TB test, please call our scheduling office at 517-353-4660 to make an appointment with Campus Health Services Primary Care.
Campus Health Center hosts appointment TB Clinics at the beginning of the school year for those volunteering through Community Engaged Learning. You may contact our office at 517-353-9763 for more information regarding dates and times. If you are getting a TB test because you are volunteering through Community Engaged Learning, you must bring your TB Volunteer form with you to the appointment. Please contact Community Engaged Learning for more information.
Allergy & Immunization services also gives injections for the following medications:
Multiple Sclerosis Injectable Therapy
Testosterone
Lupron (we require a copy of your last pregnancy test results before starting this medication)
Vitamin B12
We require the same documentation for these medications as we do for allergy serum. Please go to "Getting Started with Injections" and follow the same steps.
We offer antibody titer testing for a fee, which is blood testing for those who need proof of their vaccine levels. To schedule your appointment with the Allergy and Immunization nurse, call 517-353-4660.
Please bring your vaccination record to your appointment. You should be able to obtain your records from your high school, home doctor, or local health department.
Appointments
Please arrive at least ten minutes before your appointment. If you arrive after your appointment time, you may be asked to reschedule.
Due to the possibility of serious reactions to injections, Allergy and Immunization requires all patients to wait in our office for 30 minutes after receiving injections. If you cannot stay the entire 30 minutes you will not be given any injections.
Cancellations and Missed Appointments
We understand that life can get in the way, so if you are unable to keep an appointment, please call our cancellation line at 517-355-7707 by 5 p.m. the day before your appointment. This message line is available 24 hours a day.
Insurance and Costs
