Content Advisory: Suicide Prevention
Join the Michigan State University community on April 12, 2026, for the Out of the Darkness Walk, an annual event that brings Spartans together to support suicide prevention and promote mental health awareness. The walk will take place at the Hubbard/Akers Courtyard, with check‑in beginning at 11 a.m. and the walk stepping off at 12 p.m.
Hosted by UHW’s Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the Out of the Darkness Walk creates a welcoming, supportive space for students, faculty, staff, families, and community members touched by suicide. Participants are invited to walk or roll along the Red Cedar River according to their needs and abilities from 1 mile - 5K. While there is no fee to participate, donations are encouraged. Participants can also explore on‑site activities, including vendor tables, honor bead stations, and a dedicated hope and healing area for reflection and remembrance.
Funds raised through the walk directly support AFSP’s mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide through education, advocacy, research, and community programs. AFSP’s campus walks unite people nationwide in the message that suicide can be prevented and that no one has to struggle alone.
Whether you walk to remember a loved one, support someone who is struggling, or strengthen our campus culture of care, your presence matters. Hope Walks Here, and together, we can take meaningful steps to #StopSuicide.
