Register with Accommodations

If you are a student or employee at MSU, and you have a disability that substantially limits a major life activity, you can register with the RCPD and you may be eligible to receive accommodations. This information is kept strictly confidential and self-identification is voluntary. However, if you have a disability, not registering with the RCPD may delay or compromise the availability of accommodations. As many reasonable accommodations require significant pre-planning, registration with the RCPD prior to situations requiring accommodations is essential.

Step 1

Submit Online Application

Formally identify as a student or employee with a physical, sensory, cognitive or psychological disability via the AccessMSU accommodation portal.

  1. Login with your MSU credentials and select “Start New Application.”
  2. Fill in your information and select “Create Application Draft” – your application will be saved in our system and you can return to it later if needed.
Note: Accommodations cannot be provided for draft applications. Please complete all steps to submit your application.
  3. Complete the “List of Questions” on the next page to provide further information which will help the RCPD pair you with the right Access Specialist.
  4. Save your application and proceed to uploading documentation. Our documentation page includes documentation standards and submission guidelines. Your form will not be reviewed until you have submitted documentation.
  5. Submit your application. You will receive a confirmation email.

*All required fields must be completed in order to submit the application. If you are unsure what to put please contact us.

Step 2

Schedule an Appointment

After completing your application, including submitting your documentation, please allow for processing time. Once your application has been reviewed, your assigned RCPD Access Specialist will send you an email with instructions on how to schedule your Needs Assessment meeting

Step 3

Needs Assessment Meeting

During your Needs Assessment meeting, you and your Access Specialist will work together to discuss your accommodation requests to determine reasonable accommodations and how to implement them to support your access at MSU.

If you are an employee, the needs assessment will be conducted by an Employee & Labor Relations Accommodations Specialist.

Confidentiality & Mandatory Reporting

The RCPD adheres to strict standards of confidentiality in the management of student information. Since RCPD is the only holder of disability documentation, all disability-related documentation should be directed to RCPD (not other campus departments).

The RCPD staff are designated as mandatory reporters and must promptly report incidents of sexual harassment, sexual violence, sexual misconduct, stalking, and relationship violence that are observed or learned about in their professional capacity and involve a member of the university community or occurred at a university-sponsored event or on university property.

Though RCPD staff enjoys a reputation of fairness, compassion, and integrity, the possibility always exists for disagreements about disability determination, appropriateness of accommodations, or service quality. In the event a disagreement arises, please visit our Dispute Resolution page.
