Campus SART

MSU Campus Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)

A Coordinated Response for Survivors

Established in 2019, the Michigan State University Campus Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) brings together campus and community partners to improve the response to sexual assault affecting the MSU community. Through a multidisciplinary, survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and offender-focused approach, SART works to enhance access to support, strengthen collaboration among responding agencies, and promote community safety.

By utilizing evidence-based best practices, SART partners help improve survivors' experiences seeking support while strengthening efforts to identify offenders and hold perpetrators accountable whenever possible.

What Sets Our SART Apart?

The MSU Campus SART brings together professionals from advocacy, healthcare, law enforcement, student support, housing, prosecution, Student Conduct, and Title IX to ensure survivors receive coordinated care and consistent information throughout their journey. Unlike many community-based SARTs, the MSU Campus SART includes university-based offices and disciplines such as Title IX and Student Conduct, allowing for a more comprehensive response to the unique needs of students. Rather than navigating multiple systems alone, survivors benefit from a network of partners working together to support safety, healing, and informed decision-making.

Our collaborative model focuses on:

  • Trauma-Informed Response – Prioritizing survivor well-being, choice, dignity, and empowerment.
  • Coordinated Services – Strengthening communication and collaboration across disciplines.
  • Accessible Support – Making advocacy, healthcare, criminal justice, and university systems easier to navigate.
  • Professional Development – Promoting best practices through ongoing cross-disciplinary training.
  • Community Safety and Accountability – Supporting efforts to identify offenders and improve responses to sexual violence.

Working Together for Survivors

Through shared protocols, training, outreach, and multidisciplinary collaboration, the MSU Campus SART strives to create a seamless and responsive system of care. Our goal is to ensure every survivor is met with compassion, respect, and access to the resources they need while strengthening the community's response to sexual violence.
