Art of Healing

The MSU Center for Survivors is excited to host the Art of Healing, an event offering space for students, staff, faculty and community survivors of sexual and relationship violence to express their healing through art. The Art of Healing event is held each spring semester to showcase survivors artwork.

Spring 2026 Call for Submissions: Survivors of sexual assault and relationship violence are invited to submit creations that represent their healing, including art, photos, music, poetry, written work, dances, etc.

Get Involved in Healing through the Arts: Additionally, the Center for Survivors offers several groups & workshops to support survivors to utilize the arts in their healing. Below are the Spring 2026 Art of Healing workshops.

Questions? Contact the Art of Healing Committee co-chairs Ikram Adawe at adaweikr@msu.edu or Christie Schichtel at schicht3@msu.edu.

Who can submit materials to the Art of Healing?

Any survivor of sexual and relationship violence who is a current MSU student, staff, faculty, or community member receiving services from the Center for Survivors is welcome to submit their original artwork.

What types of art can be submitted?

Survivors can submit any of their original artwork, including art, photos, music, poetry, written work, dances, etc. When submitting their materials, survivors can select their piece to be part of a live or video performance section, gallery of visual arts, or the photo slideshow.

What about confidentiality?

This event is only open to survivors and their supporters. Also, when submitting materials, survivors can submit anonymously, with an alias, or with their full or partial name. Pronouns are also optional. Survivors submitting written work can select to have their piece read by a Center for Survivors staff member or volunteer.

Do I need to be an artist?

No, this event celebrates survivors of all backgrounds who are using creative ways to heal.
